This isn’t just a business to me—it’s an extension of who I am. I wanted the freedom to shape a space where care is thoughtful, responsive, and centered on you. Establishing Open Door allows me more agency over how things are handled - from first contact to last, so the experience feels consistent, personal and supportive every step of the way.

Therapeutic care doesn’t begin and end with the session, and it shouldn’t feel different depending on how you reach out. The same care and attention you receive in session is what you can expect on the phone, in email, and throughout your time here. I’m here to support you and guide you to the life you want, with a steady commitment to quality, connection, and compassion in everything I do.

Hi, I’m Jennifer Sloan.

I’m a licensed therapist and the founder of Open Door Counseling. I earned my Master of Science in Counseling from the University of Memphis, and over the years I’ve had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, adults, and families in a variety of settings—including as a professional school counselor. Those experiences shaped the way I see people: not as problems to fix, but as whole humans navigating complicated seasons of life.

My work centers around depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, ADHD, relationship concerns, and family dynamics. But more than any diagnosis, I’m interested in your story—what’s been heavy, what’s felt confusing, and what’s quietly shaping the way you move through your days.

Clients often tell me they feel understood in our work together. I take that seriously. I bring a grounded, calm presence into the room, along with curiosity and a quiet sense of humor when it fits. I’m not the kind of therapist who just nods and listens—I’m collaborative and engaged. We’ll explore patterns, build practical tools, and gently challenge the thoughts or behaviors that may be keeping you stuck.

My approach is integrative and flexible. I draw from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), strengths-based approaches, and family systems work. That means we might work on identifying unhelpful thinking patterns, building emotional regulation skills, improving communication, or understanding how your past experiences are influencing your present relationships. Therapy with me is both reflective and practical—you’ll leave with insight and tools.

At the heart of my work is this belief: growth doesn’t require you to become someone else. It’s about coming home to who you already are—stronger, clearer, and more aligned with your values.

Outside of the therapy room, I value authenticity and meaningful connection. I enjoy hiking with my dog, Sam, being involved in my community, and spending time with the people I love. Those parts of my life keep me grounded and remind me how important it is to create space for rest, joy, and connection—even when life feels complicated.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, anxious, discouraged, or simply unsure of your next step, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Therapy can be a steady place to sort through the noise, build resilience, and move toward real-life growth.
